Filter cartridges
A cartridge is chosen by size and by job. The size must match the housing — Mignon, 5", 10", 20" or the larger BIG for houses with high water use. The job depends on the cartridge type:
- sediment cartridges stop sand and rust; the lower the micron rating, the finer the filtration and the faster the cartridge clogs;
- rinsable mesh is washed and refitted, which suits sandy borehole water;
- hot water cartridges are made of materials that withstand heat; standard cartridges do not go on a hot line.
A coarser cartridge (50–90 µm) usually goes first, followed by a finer one (5–20 µm). How to change a cartridge yourself is explained in “Replacing a filter cartridge”; matching housings are in filter housings.
